F.N. Cornett, of Bloomfield, NM., passed away peacefully on July 26, 2018, he was 96.
He was born and raised in north Texas, living a farming life until his enlistment in the U.S. Army in 1941. He served throughout the Second World War, landing in Normandy shortly after the primary invasion. He saw much of France and Germany during the war.
Following separation from the army, he met and married his wife of 55 years, Leola Griffin. He then moved his family through several towns in the panhandle of Texas, working as a lineman, building high-voltage power lines for an electric utility. In 1953, he moved his family to a farm near House, NM., then moved to Farmington in 1960 and to Bloomfield in 1963. He remained on a farm near Bloomfield until his passing.
He worked for the City of Farmington as a lineman for several years, then he and his wife opened a successful TV and appliance store, first in Bloomfield, then in Farmington. He sold the business and retired to his farm in 1979.
He is preceded in death by his parents George Wesley Cornett and Irma Brown Cornett; three brothers Desmond (Doris), Horace (Rene), and Carl (Carol) Cornett; and his wife Leola Cornett.
He is survived by two sisters; Mildred (Stanley) Hobbs of Clovis, NM., and Nola (William) Howard of Lubbock, TX.; brother Glenn (Eleanor) Cornett of Fort Stockton, TX.; daughter Ida (Larry) Sikes of Kirtland, NM.; son Frank Pancho (Deb) Cornett of Ellijay, GA.; two grandsons Michael (Cindy) Sikes of Bloomfield, NM., and Christopher (Marie) Sikes of El Paso, TX.; granddaughter Catherine (Ross) McNally of Layton, UT; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a very special lady Verna Shorty Griffin of Lee Acres.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Bloomfield Cemetery, with graveside services immediately following funeral services.
