James Jim Petersen April 21, 1943 to September 26, 2018. Jim, a long-time resident of Farmington died peacefully Wednesday morning, September 26. He was born in Schleswig, Iowa on April 21, 1943 and raised on a family farm. After high school he worked on the pit crew and later built NASCAR race cars. This fueled his love for customizing vehicles which was not only his passion but also became a career.
Jim will always be remembered as a founding member, over 40 years ago, of the Cliffhangers 4 Wheel Drive Club in Farmington. Many trail rides, camp outs, and other group activities with families made his days here very full and happy.
Along with his love of four wheeling Jim also became a Hot Air Balloon commercial pilot and piloted the balloon Misty Blue with his friend Jim Christensen for many years. Jim kindled his love for the mountains with his children by taking them camping and wheeling at an early age along with the love of his life Madalyn. He loved grilling, flowers, candles, children and animals of any kind. He was a very active man who loved life and all the challenges that came with it.
He left behind those who loved him and called him friend. This includes his wife Madalyn of over 50 years of marriage, children; daughter Nicole with husband Duane and granddaughter Jessica; daughter Amy with grandchildren Jordan and Bailey; son Damon and wife Katie. Also, his sister Judy and husband Gayle Cose from Iowa, sister-in-law Kathy, and many nieces and nephews.
His mom and dad, Nellie and Harry Petersen, along with brothers Tom and Darrel are already part of the welcoming committee waiting for him.
Cremation has taken place and services will be at 11AM on Saturday, September 29th at St. Mary's Church. There will be a reception to follow at the Elks Club in Farmington.
