Joel Robert Johnson

Joel Robert Johnson, 54, of Farmington, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 8,
2018, at San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, with family at his side. He
was born November 26, 1963, in Douglas, Arizona, son of Barbara and Jerold Johnson.
In 1967, Joel's family moved to Farmington, where he attended school and then the
Shield Workshop for many years. Since 2010, he lived with his house-mates in a
residence supervised by the Tungland Corporation.
With the support of his family and friends and numerous care-givers, Joel was able to
overcome many obstacles in his life. His interests included riding his big tricycle,
listening to the piano and other music, going to the park, and attending area basketball
games, as well as eating out and spending time with family and friends. Joel will be
remembered as an exceptional and special human being who touched the lives of
everyone who knew him.
Preceded in death by his mother, Barbara, Joel is survived by his father, Jerold, of
Farmington; his brother Mark, also of Farmington, his brother Stanley, of Laramie,
Wyoming, and his sister Laura Kelly and her husband Wade, of Loveland, Colorado.
A visitation for Joel will be from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, Thursday, March 15, at the Brewer-Lee-
Larkin Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM, the next day,
with Pastor Brent Heddin from Desert Heights Church officiating. Burial will follow at
Memory Gardens in Farmington. Pallbearers are Mark Johnson, Stanley Johnson,
Antonio Begay, Harris Brogan, Kendrick Yanito, and Michael Bahe. Honorary
pallbearers are Jerold Johnson, Laura Kelly, Debbie Wegley and Shanin Arp.
