It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Monica Price Grossheim. She was a loving and loyal wife, a spectacular and dedicated mother, a dear friend, intrepid traveler, gifted quilter, voracious reader and the epicenter of her family. Her feisty, determined spirit was infectious to those around her. She died peacefully, surrounded by family on Sunday, October 6th.
Monica was born in Boise, Idaho to Edmund and Jean Price on January 4th, 1940. She held a Bachelor's in Nursing from the University of Missouri. She proudly worked as a nurse for over 50 years and taught nursing at San Juan College for over 20 years. She met her husband of 62 years, Robert Grossheim while at college, on a blind date. Their marriage was filled with dedicated love for each other and their three children. They were each other's best friends, co-conspirators and rarely did anything apart.
Monica is survived by her husband Robert, three children, Roby Grossheim and his wife Jana Grossheim, Nica Grossheim and her wife Jessy Grossheim and her daughter, Jennifer Grossheim Harris and her significant other Gary Freeman. Her kids often joked that she loved her grandchildren, their spouses and her great grandchildren even more than the three of them. Grand children and their spouses include, Dalton and Morgan Grossheim, Colton and Calienne Grossheim, Trenton Grossheim, Hailey Watson Grossheim, Hannah Watson Grossheim and Monica Westerling. Three adorable great grand children, Abagail, Cordelia and Jude. Monica is also survived by her beautiful sister Jeannette Meriwether and husband Jon, they took yearly trips together.
Monica had weekly breakfast with her close-knit friends from church and made countless quilts that were donated to San Juan County judicial system for newly adopted kids, with a history of support for World Wildlife Fund, Child haven, Habitat for Humanity and to the local women's homeless shelter.
The family is planning a future private memorial service. If you would like to make a memorial contribution in her honor, Monica was very fond of Tres Rios Habitat for Humanity, San Juan Animal League, or National Adoption Day.
Monica will be missed by many, leaving behind a legacy of love for life, adventure, and her extended family and friends.
