Ricardo "Richard" Garcia

On Wednesday October 23, 2024, Ricardo “Richard” Garcia, loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away in Farmington, NM at age 81.

Richard was born in Ignacio, CO on April 3, 1943, to Maximo Garcia and Dolores (Martinez) Garcia. Richard served in the Airforce after high school. He spent most of adult life living in Bloomfield, NM and working for the County, driving 18-wheeler trucks, the State Highway Department, and then retired from Cascade Water Company. He married his wife, Nora (Abeyta) Garcia, on April 14, 1965. They raised 5 children together: 2 daughters Diane and Leoda, and 3 sons Kenneth, Rick, and DeWayne. Aside from work, Richard enjoyed volunteering and spent a lot of time working with the Salvation Army, the Boys and Girls Club, and Four Winds AA recovery center. Richard loved woodworking, jewelry making, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Dolores; wife Nora Garcia; and siblings, Maurice Sage Sr., Ray Sage Sr., Benny Garcia, Porfia Carpenter, Lula Baker, Mary Sage, Priscilla Rock, and Margaret Schoenburg. He is survived by sibling Josephine Olguin; children, Diane (Sonny) Archibeque, Leoda (Amos) Garcia, Kenneth (Celeste) Garcia, Rick (Andrea) Garcia, and DeWayne (Jaycelena) Garcia; grandchildren, Steven (Amalia) Montoya, Nicole (Isaac) Sandoval, Gabriel (Alisha) Archibeque, Erik (Amanda) Montoya, Hillary Garcia, Alex Garcia, Joseph Villalobos, Annalee Garcia, Alyssia Villalobos, Mario Garcia, Ariel Garcia, Teija Garcia, Marcos Garcia, and Adam Garcia; 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday November 6, 2024, at Sacred Heart Parish in Farmington, NM. The rosary will start at 9:30am and the service at 10:00am. 

Flower donations can be sent to Sacred Heart Parish on the day of service as early as 7:00am. Dessert donations can be dropped off at St. Mary’s Parish Hall in Bloomfield, NM on the day of service. Funeral arrangements are with Brewer, Lee, & Larkin Funeral Home.
