Robert Grant Lawson

November 23, 1929 — January 21, 2019

Robert Grant Lawson, 89, of Farmington, NM, died January 21, 2019 at San Juan Regional Hospital. Robert was born November 23, 1929 at home in Aztec, NM to Arthur and Emma Lawson. He had five siblings.

Robert and his father helped to excavate Aztec Ruins. He grew up during the depression and graduated from Aztec High School. Robert served in the Navy during the Korean War. He was stationed in San Diego and Japan. He married Rosabel Pedwell and had just celebrated their 67th Anniversary. Robert went to work for Dowell/Schlumberger as a chemical engineer and salesman, where he retired after 34 years.

Robert could fix what was broken. He was a collector of artifacts like old ringer washers, a fisherman who tied his own flies, and enjoyed hunting for food. He was an excellent cook. He was a gardener, and photographer. Many good times were had with Robert’s family, from spur of the moment picnics with his favorite meat (Spam), to vacations in Mexico. He enjoyed deep sea fishing there, and he loved to fish and camp in Colorado and at Lake Powell. He had the first houseboat at Navajo Dam.

Robert had two daughters, Charlotte and Sissy (Louise) and was an excellent caring dad. He was a great example to his eldest grandson, William, when his father died at the age of 2. After Robert retired he took care of his mother-in-law, Mary Pedwell when she became wheelchair-bound. Robert was the caregiver for his wife Rosabel after she was diagnosed with cancer. He had a keen sense of humor and always saw the lighter side of life. He was often quoted saying, “No one said life was easy” and “it’s better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick”. Robert Lawson will be remembered as a thoughtful, generous, and caring man that put others before himself. He especially loved his family and friends, he belonged to the Good ol’ Boys and they visited often and were life-long friends.

Robert is preceded in death by parents, Arthur Hatton Lawson and Emma Rosa Probst; brothers, Arthur Lawson Jr., and Albert Lawson (passed in infancy); sisters, Louise Oswell, Rosalie Currant; grandchild, Ashley Marie Crawford; and great grand-child Katrina Rose McCune.

Robert is survived by wife, Rosabel Lawson; daughters, Charlotte (Robert) Kay Briggs-McCune, and Roberta (Frankie) Louise Crawford (Sissy); sister, Betty Waggoner; grandchildren, William (Angie) Briggs, their two children Jack and James, Ben McCune and son Anderson, Amber Crawford and son Robert Crawford; great-grandsons, Dylan, Christopher (Chubs) and Gabedon.
